I believe our ability to reason and to make inquiries is what makes us humans. Our curiosity is fueled by reason.

If at any point we choose to accept something, and forgo reason in this process we are violating everything that makes us human.

By accepting anything blindly, we are giving up our integrity and accepting a reality that is not our own, but one that has been fabricated by someone else.

I deny god, I deny jesus, I deny vishnu, I deny zeus, I deny superman, I deny the tooth fairy, I deny ignorance and I refuse to give up what makes me a human being. If I want the truth, I will search for it, not accept something blindly that is just an easy answer.

I am a Human Being, not a mindless automaton.

God.
Even mentioning that brings up so many questions in so many people. My question is this. Why do you feel the need to ask other people their opinions of God? Or if they have proof of God? Or if they have proof that God doesn't exist? I'm not saying there is a God or not but atheiests and Christians alike ask all the time. Is there really a God? So I want to know why you want to know what other people think? You should know by now even without asking other people that the odds are even. Asking other people is just going to give you answers like God doesn't exist because blah blah or God does exist because blah blah.

Anyone know the meaning...like in a paragraph or less of Emily Dickinson's "An Altered Look About The Hills?"

An altered look about the hills --
A Tyrian light the village fills --
A wider sunrise in the morn --
A deeper twilight on the lawn --
A print of a vermillion foot --
A purple finger on the slope --
A flippant fly upon the pane --
A spider at his trade again --
An added strut in Chanticleer --
A flower expected everywhere --
An axe shrill singing in the woods --
Fern odors on untravelled roads --
All this and more I cannot tell --
A furtive look you know as well --
And Nicodemus' Mystery
Receives its annual reply!

he in fact does not exist? If so, what evidence would convince you? Or is there nothing that you could possibly imagine that could make you stop believing?

I am looking for a book I read a long time ago. It's science fiction short stories, (an anthology?) with kids as the central characters. The stories all seemed connected in the sense that they were later on in the same history as the stories before it. There was a story about kids who figured out a way to leap long distances by brain power. There was an archaeological dig that discovered information from near our time. There was a kid who learned how to make longer leaps, to other planets. There may have been a child stuck on a planet with heavy gravity and communicating with a bush. One planet had sound or colors as life forms. At the end, two very evolved people from this time line observed two children from a distant galaxy that were in a time very much like out own.

Anyway, do you know of a site where they help you find titles and authors? Do you know the title or author of this book? It would have been published in the 1980's or before.

thanks

beside the topic is: the most influential person, or people in your life...
this is what i wrote:

Who has been the most influential person in my life? There are more than one. As I stepped into new situations, I have encountered new people, and each one has taught me a new, unique lesson. However, for some of us there are individuals who impact our lives in greater ways than we could ever hope.
In my life, those people are my parents: my father, for his great caring heart, honesty, and tolerance; and my mother, for her kindness, morality, and strength as a feminist. They have become my pattern.
Even though I haven’t learned everything they tried to teach me, I have tried to apply the values and principles I learned from them, and that has helped me in situations that arose in my life over the years. Even now, my parents remain a guiding influence in my life.
