I have to write a 5 paragraph essay on World War II using a individual, a group of people, or an event as my subject. There is so much to write about like the massacre of 6 million Jews, bombing at Hiroshima, D-Day, and so forth. I would like to know which subject on WWII you think is interesting, exciting, perhaps mysterious to many people, pivotal, and contraversal or argueable. If possible, please provide links or sources to your topic. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

We have an assignment in an ethics class to convince a city counsel to create a new plan, in essence avoiding/preserving fossil fuels, and promoting alternative fuel. There are obvious enviornmental benefits from this, among others. However, we are supposed to make the argument a moral one. For example: 1) fossil fuels produce carbon emissions 2) carbon emissions are harmful to us 3) it is morally wrong to cause harm to yourself or others 4) other alternative fuels have less harmful effects, 5) therefore, it is our moral obligation to use alternative fuels... something like that. And he always asks, well, what do u mean by moral obligation, why is it our moral obligation not to cause harm to others or ourselves... and so on. everyone is confused. so I was wondering what others think is meant by moral obligation? Or how you might say we have a moral obligation, or do we? to use alternative fuels. I just need some outside thoughts, because I am stuck. Thanks.

I have three children, ages 16, 13 and 8. They been acting in community theatre and the like all their lives basically. They have the desire, drive and discipline to do this professionally, and I would like to help them to pursue this. Where do I start? How do I find out about auditions in New York and elsewhere?

I a have non self sufficent 25 yr old girlfriend who can't even balance her own checkbook. She has a gullible, naive personality, (every sales persons dream!) Anyhow, she's been ripped off apartment wise, vehicle financing wise, well the list can go on. She can't cook, clean, sew, do laundry or even clean her cat's litter box ET CETERA.
She actually had her mom do EVERYTHING for her. She recently moved in to her own place with roomates.. I'm just worried she won't last a week there.. Hey! I would show her the ropes of life, but I can't show her everything! Maybe a book would help?

Are there books that tell you how to do EVERYTHING!

it's hard to explain, but if the pet didn't know what happened would it be harder for them to cope with your death because they wouldn't have closure, they would just want to see you but wouldn';t be able to find you. I feel worse for a dog sometimes when i hear of someone dying and leaving behind a pet, because they never really know what happened to u.

I have been painting on and off for a few years just for my own pleasure. The problem is I never think i am any good and just give up half way through. I then get re-inspired to finish my painting (about six months after starting it) and just get frustrated again. I'm never happy with the end product. I'm not sure if this is normal and my paintings are ok, or if i just suck at it. I do enjoy it for the most part, and do think that i'm being harsh on myself. Can you honestly tell me if my paintings are any good or are they really bad? Please bear in mind that i've never had any classes and didn't even do art in high school.
Thanks (and please be nice - but honest)!

I am very experienced in acting, singing, and dancing. Just at my local theatre that works with people on broadway. But I want to go further. I want to convince my parents to let me get an agent, auditon for shows and movies (mainly I want to try Disney), and more like that. But there are problems. Like pricing, no we're not poor, I don't know what you consider rich, but either way my parents don't want to spend the money. Another is location, I live in L.A. but I've heard of auditions in lie, chicago, which my parents would never allow. Also, school work, how would I be able to do it, Im only 14 after all. But I'd give anything to have that. It's my dream, and I've heard from many well experienced people (broadway stars and such) that i really have talent. And I really want to start this NOW! Please help me. Much appreciation.

When it comes to doing abstracts I learned long ago that acrylics give you much more freedom to experiment with than oils.

The translucent effect in this painting is achieved by diluting the bright, solid colors and mixing them with clear acrylic gel. The diluted colors then become encased in the gel as the paint is applied, giving the appearance of an aura around the solid colors.

I tried getting the same effects last year with tempera and came close. But tempera is hardly permanent.

Can any of you, my fellow artists, gets effects like this using oil paint?

But, please, no lame novels with fancy covers. I might lose my mood of reading it.
