One common mistake here is thinking that ALL last names have some meaning. That isn't always true.
Are you hoping to know more about your own background? Tibbs is a common name, and your ancestors could have come from anywhere, not necessarily the same place as where the name "originates". Surnames generally became common in the 1300's or so.
On the other hand, if you ask where did John Tibbs die, in about 1900 probably in Texas, then someone could look it up, or explain what death records there would be for THAT time and place. You could also chat with other people already doing research on the family/ name, and find relatives.
