Ok, its a Georgette Heyer novel. (Or atleast I think it is)
Time Period: 18th century.

The story goes, that this guy is kind of forced into marrying this girl, who at the time is not very pleasing to look at. She wears spectacles as her eyesight has deteriorated because of all the books she reads.

Anyhoo, she tries to make herself more attractive, and somehow succeeds and meets her husband at this ball. He doesn't recognize her, but falls in love with her, and asks him to be her mistress. She is shocked but goes along with the charade.

Aparently all is revealed at the end.

Sound familiar? Anything? Anything at all?

By “magic” I mean some paranormal events or abilities that are inexplicable by the current laws of science. My primary interests here are philosophical and psychological, so I would like to see answers focused on how it would FEEL for you to realize the reality of magic, and how it would affect your beliefs about the nature of reality. Suppose, for example, that you discovered that you, or someone you love, has magical healing powers, or telekinetic abilities, or something of that sort, and you are able to rule out the possibility of faking, etc., so that you are faced with believing that you are truly witnessing something inexplicable to current science. Would it affect your belief in the existence and/or nature of God? Would it affect your view of human nature of the role of spiritual meaning in your life? Would you tell people, or keep quiet for fear that people would think you were crazy? Would you be intrigued by the power? Or fearful that there was some evil behind it?

I read books, short ones from lemony snicket to ian fleming, to long ones such as Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter, but I always read so slowly, and it takes me forever to get through even the most simplest book. Any tips on how to speed read and enjoy a book?

I just finished reading Paul Chiasson's book, "The Island of Seven Cities: Where the Chinese Settled When They Discovered America".

I don't want to spoil it too much for those who haven't read it, but here goes....

There is an ancient Chinese settlement on Cape Dauphin in Nova Scotia that pre-dates the European voyages to the New World!

Example of the cut stones on the site:

If you said to your child..."You are going to be a doctor" And reinforced thoes words every single day do you think he would end up being a doctor?.....well take that same idea and if you were to tell your child..."you are going to be a beautiful natural healer, or...perhaps psychic..." Do you think they would become that?....Do you think that we hone our children or you were honed, to a certain path by our parents?...

I have tried to imagine all manmade objects from aeroplane to a bicycle, from buildings to a ballpoint pen. And I have found all things requiring some additional decoration in order to look good or even tolerable – just imagine all aeroplanes without paint? But bridges I always find fascinating and beautiful, even when they are old and discoloured. Can you find a thing made by man that is beautiful without requiring any decorative additions to its original purpose?

if there is a difference, there must be a seperate use and a combined use for both aspects of your meta-physical reality. if so, do you know and how did you find that out?
