Himalayas is the northern border of Nepal, part of it is in the chinese side. You have to go to Katmandu and either trek by foot to Lukla, as there a small plane service that goes there too. From Lukla you get to see a closer view of the himalayan ranges. This is the same route that mountaneers take in going to the MT. Everest base camp. From Katmandu , you could also trek towards Pochara and on to the Annapurna range. There is one peak that is forbidden for mountaineers to climb, the "fish tail"- Machapuchare !! The recent political upheaval in Katmandu makes it diffucult to move around there now. The communist have taken over the goverment and you have to know your way around to enjoy your stay there.

The Himalaya is a mountain range in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. By extension, it is also the name of the massive mountain system which includes the Himalaya proper, the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and a host of minor ranges extending from the Pamir Knot. The name is from Sanskrit himÄlaya, a tatpurusa compound meaning "the abode of snow" (from hima "snow", and Älaya "abode"; see also Himavat).
