I have tried to imagine all manmade objects from aeroplane to a bicycle, from buildings to a ballpoint pen. And I have found all things requiring some additional decoration in order to look good or even tolerable – just imagine all aeroplanes without paint? But bridges I always find fascinating and beautiful, even when they are old and discoloured. Can you find a thing made by man that is beautiful without requiring any decorative additions to its original purpose?

Please folks, I said an object made by man. A child is made by God, a poem has to be beautiful, and a rainbow is made by fairies everyone knows that. I repeat, could there be a manmade object be more beautiful than a simple bridge? And if you do not find one then simply say: okey, simplyshahid you have found an object that is beautiful just because of its beautiful purpose.

A song or a poem is an object of sheer beauty and charm - highly decorated and accurately ornate for the purpose. It purpose is to beautify life and what matter to us in life. Something else please?

I got your point. A simple unpretentious bridge over a stream is piece of human engineering, initially designed and constructed as a utility, but it can be as beautiful as a painting by a great master. Did you know that Romantics in Europe used to see in dilapidated buildings and ruins ideal beauty, melancholy and exquisite

What a wonderful question! It really got me thinking. You are absolutely right. I can't think of anything else made by man that put in our enviroment looks so wonderful. New or old added with the element of water and bridges appear very harmonious with our lifestyle. Another thing manmade not quite along the same line but a really beautiful song or poem that brings sounds to your ear that make you happy or invigorate are good too.

I would strongly agree. Archways, too, but the water under a bridge, nature and man's creation together really tops everything else.

Paintings? No. Jewellery? No. Flowerpots are pretty cool! And simple boats come close.

To answer the actual question, yes something could be more beautiful, it would depend on the viewer but I am sure in surveys a bridge would be very high.

Nice call.

i agree there is nothing more beautiful. water represents spirit , the unknown. bridges suspend us over these pools/streams of deep hidden knowledge and we can see reflections of all that might be looking back at us for that brief moment we're transfixed seeing the well of the universe and all that is, beneath us. hope wells up, magyk is possible, there is no pain sorrow death, only gentle waves soothing the soul, or torrents washing away all that's wrong...........we are at that time whole.
