I work as a care assitant and last week one of the men I visit was showing me his fathers war medals. He was telling me about them and so on. The man has no family, and I was thinking about his medals when I got home so the day after I asked him what would happen to them when anything happened to him, as he has been quite ill. (I have visited this guy for 5 years and was comfortable asking him and he was comfortable to be asked. I'm not in the habit of sussing out peoples inheritences!) Anyway he told me he had been wanting to sort out having them returned to the regiment his father served in, and had meant to write to them but hadn't been able to. I told him I would go to his house one afternoon and write for him. Unfortunatley he went into hospital last weekend and died yesterday. I have passed this info onto my manager who has informed his social worker, but how do I find out his regiment and stuff like that? I'm not convinced the social worker will put the effort in.

We broke up once again in October. We really haven't talked, she won't answer my emails. I'm use to this, we've done this for three years on and off. Every Christmas it seems she's angry at me for something. I usually however buy her something nice. Sometimes she thanks me for it and last year I didn't even get a thank you or a Merry Xmas. She didn't start speaking to me again until June, her bday when I sent her Roses. Ok so now not speaking again. She won't return my emails or anything. Do I send her a gift this year? I feel that if I don't she'll think I'm a piece of crap. I usually spoil her. What should I do?

I wondered if some one can help me and show working out the calks to this question...

A contractor has to excavate for foundations in an area for which there are no plans of existing services. It is anticipated that he may cut across one or more of the service lines whilst excavating. The following probabilities have been calculated for each of the following services:

Water supply - 0.08
Gas - 0.05
Telephone Cable – 0.04
Drainage – 0.12
Electricity – 0.05

Calculate the probability of cutting across

a) at least one of the services
b) both water and drainage
c) electricity or telephone cable

 I have the answers but I don’t know how to get them no putting them on here so I can check your answers too.

Hope someone can help

Regards

We both agree that absolute certainty is not humanly possible.
We agree that Judaism, Islam and other major religions are wrong.
We agree that Thor, Zeus and thousands of other Gods never existed.
Can I get a giant hug since we agree on so much??

NO offence to the Religious contributors here on Y!/A. Just MY feelings about being harassed... not by ALL, but SOME, Religious denominations. Sorry if this annoyed you. I understand...can you tell me if they do?

I've been telling the same elderly couple, as nicely as i can compose myself - I AM Capable of selecting my own religion, thank you, only for them to be back again and again... for months on end...And they aren't the only two either...Is persistence to convert, a part of the doctrine, or just close-minded fanatics who don't respect others right to make decisins for themsleves, and in the name of their saviour, enjoy pushing (literally asking for) a harrassment suite? It makes me so angry. Fine if it were in a public arena, but my own home is not for complementary magazine distributing intruders.

Once is bad enough. Why do they persist? I'm an Atheist. Jeez....

THE MYSTERY OF PAIN.
Emily Dickinson

Pain has an element of blank;
It cannot recollect
When it began, or if there were
A day when it was not.

It has no future but itself,
Its infinite realms contain
Its past, enlightened to perceive
New periods of pain.

I mean the ones who live in mansions, fly in private planes, drive Rolls, wear Rollex watches and then beg for donations from people who are barely making a living. Here are a few of the greedy ones, I refer to.
Randy and Paula White of Without Walls International Church and Paula White Ministries of Tampa, Fla.; Benny Hinn of World Healing Center Church Inc. and Benny Hinn Ministries of Grapevine, Texas; David and Joyce Meyer of Joyce Meyer Ministries of Fenton, Mo.; Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries of Newark, Texas; Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Bishop Eddie Long Ministries of Lithonia, Ga.; and Creflo and Taffi Dollar of World Changers Church International and Creflo Dollar Ministries of College Park, Ga.

Before 9/11, espionage was still a the cold war system. Where our enemies were clearly defined by their borders. But while nations have everything to lose, movements can survive on ideology alone.

Al Qaeda was a new kind of enemy, calling for a new kind of spycraft.

So my question is, how has the United States Intelligence community adapted since 9/11?

Is the CIA now training agents in Arabic instead of Russian? Instead of recruiting ivy league kids fluent in German, Russian or Chinese, are they now recruiting Harvard grads of Arab, Persian or Mediterranean decent?

Or has the CIA been replaced by new agencies unknown to most of the public?

I'm sure the NSA is still on top. But what about Delta Force? Or Black Ops? Whose commando tactics seem ill-equipped to face an enemy made of dispersed cell networks.

Who is training the new generation of western spies and how are they doing it?

If anyone knows of any books or sources on the subject, I'd love to know where I can find info!

THE SECRET.
by Emily Dickinson

Some things that fly there be, --
Birds, hours, the bumble-bee:
Of these no elegy.

Some things that stay there be, --
Grief, hills, eternity:
Nor this behooveth me.

There are, that resting, rise.
Can I expound the skies?
How still the riddle lies!
