If it could be said that the country is about evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, then it might be safe to suggest that many Republicans don't necessarily buy into conservative, fundamental ideals.
The divorce rate is currently at it's lowest since 1970, primarily because more couples now choose to live together without marrying.
Divorce rates are indeed falling substantively among college-educated couples (oh, those naughty libs!)
The U. of Maryland found that of breakups within 10 years of marriage dropped by one-third among college-educated women!
College educated people "are learning how to negotiate marriages based on less rigid gender roles than in the past." (oooh, code word - gender roles!).
I'm not promoting "shacking-up;" just suggesting that it's certainly NOT just a "lib" choice.
And, any relationship (married or otherwise) still takes work and committment to succeed.
