A freshman at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair, April 26. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project, he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."

And for plenty of good reasons, since:

1. It can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
2. It is a major component in acid rain
3. It can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
4. Accidental inhalation can kill you
5. It contributes to erosion
6. It decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
7. It has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

So, the question is, would you sign this petition? Or not? And give a reason. I'll post the outcome of his survey in 3 hours. Check back to see!!

Star if you're intrigued!

He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical. Forty-three said yes, six were undecided, and only one knew that the chemical was water. The title of his prize winning project was, "How Gullible Are We?

I would not sign it. Before signing something (unless is a contract) id need to know more about the subject.

Also, I always thought doing this kind of thing was dumb. Cant imagine why he would win a science fair by doing that. The idea is not ORIGINAL. I remember my teacher told me at school about a kid asking people to sign a petition to end:
women suffrage.

This proves nothing.

I doubt that dihydrogen monoxide exists except as plain old..water. And apparently SOME of us DID just fall off the turnip truck.

I would NEVER sign anything so retarded. Am I gullible? I used to be until I got educated in how pathetic our society really is. I take care of me first.

How the heck can you eliminate something you can't really control... you can control if the scientist make more of that element, but that it is way too stupid!
