People say that "Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins." How does that actually work? Why does that one act pay for our sins? Would he not have been as great a person if he had not been killed?
And please, please PLEASE don't give me a preachy response. I am not trying to be saved, converted, baptized, etc. I go to a Christian church, but don't understand how that one event equals payment of sins. I'm looking for a level-headed response.
