Allow physically mobbed kids w. video evidence to assault harrassers from behind with light metal stick. Legal immunity is provided as long as it is only one blow. Publicize this widely. This prevents the accumulation of hostility which finally erupts in a shooting, and will act as strong deterrent to mobbing.

Your idea has three problems:

- What if the gunman is in a corner? There is no way to approach him without being seen and shot...

- When a gunman enters the room shoots the teacher, chaos is everywhere, no one will have the idea or the courage to sneak behind him...

- Even if the gunman isn't in the corner, and a hero is capable to go behind him, he will knock him out.... But after the first or second time, 1st degree murderers, will just wear helmets to protect.

-Cameras also is a problem. Every school, in every area, even the dorms (two were killed in the dorm at Virginia Tech) would have to put a camera which is impossible.

PS I believe in France a similar law exist. If attacked by fist you can only respond with fist, if attacked with a knife, you can only respond with a knife, and this is also valid in case of guns.

I don't think to highly of gun laws but if they want them then I believe they should prohibit the sale of any firearm or weapon as far as that goes to someone who isn't a US citizen. They should also permit the carrying of a firearm by a trained licensed security guard. That would have put a damper on things. Don't get me wrong after the Revolutionary War the soldiers were sent home with their weapon to hunt with and protect their homes but they where US citizen to And I believe the Constitution was made for US citizens not for the whole world

Go find a "light metal stick" that meets your definition, and have someone take a free whack at you. Tell me then that you have no hostility towards them. How about a car antenna - that's light, that's metal, that'll still leave a welt that will be there for a week.

And to the person named "dash" - where did you hear he had shotguns??? They were two handguns.

None of the victims were behind Cho, they were in a dorm room and classrooms.
Your remedy would have made no difference. None of them were logistically place to hit him from behind, once, twice or ten times.

Uh..probably not. Violence isn't the answer.

It's good to think creatively, but unfortunately, stuff like this will never stop. That guy was seriously mentally ill. That + two shotguns + rage/paranoia = massacre.

I actually think that gun control is imperative for this country, and would help put a hault to tragedies like this, but nothing can stop it altogether.

Well .... I prefer a lottery for "free day". You get to name your enemy, have him or her stripped naked, chained to a tree and you get to hunt them down with a canon. Sound fair?

Give me a break. Bullies have no right to do what they do, but people who were bullied have no right to committ mass murder.
