Ok sorry for the pun but does recycling actually prevent useful material resources from being wasted, reduce the consumption of raw materials and reduce engery usage or does it just contribute even more to them?

I remember looking out my window and seeing one lorry pumping out loads of carbon to collect the normal rubbish and then seeing a second lorry pumping out loads of carbon to collect the recyclable rubbish. It made me think about the Penn and Teller episode on recycling, so I decided to watch it again and found myself in agreement with much of what they were saying.

I have 2 specialised lights in my house that each have 20 x 20W 12V halogen bulbs in them (400W total each). They are driven off a torodial transformer mounting in the ceiling rose. I'm having difficulty finding an appropriate dimmer switch as at the moment, all I can do is turn them on and off - and hey, guess what, their way too bright! Turn both on, and 800W of light output blinds all my guests. Does anybody know of dimmer switches that can control inductive loads like this at this power rating? All the dimmer switches I've come across dont work with toroidal transformers (and at these power ratings, a very high surge current is present on start up). Thanks.

I know someone whose legs are all swollen, his feet are bloated and has sores all over his calves that are bleeding. He makes 8 dollars an hour and cant even take a day off work and has no insurance. Im so worried about him, and he says that he just has to let it be because he cant even go to the doc for a check up to see what is wrong. If he goes to the emergancy...they will hit him with 100s of dollars worth of bills he cant pay. He called Social Services and they said he wasnt qualified. what should he do?

I have just started the couch to 5k running plan. This week (3 days split up over the week) has been 5 minute warm up, then 8 sets of 60 second running/90 seconds walking, then a 5 minute cool down. Yesterday I noticed that my left knee was swollen, not sore at all, just swollen. So I did my weeks 3rd run/walk anyways. Today I noticed it's a bit more swollen, but still no pain at all. Should I stop until the swelling has gone down even if there is no pain?
