I know someone whose legs are all swollen, his feet are bloated and has sores all over his calves that are bleeding. He makes 8 dollars an hour and cant even take a day off work and has no insurance. Im so worried about him, and he says that he just has to let it be because he cant even go to the doc for a check up to see what is wrong. If he goes to the emergancy...they will hit him with 100s of dollars worth of bills he cant pay. He called Social Services and they said he wasnt qualified. what should he do?

County hospitals exist for the treatment of medically indigent (poor folks with no insurance who don't qualify for state or federal assisstance). They are usually affiliated with universities with medical schools (LA County+USC Medical Center, for example). Call your local health department and ask where the nearest facility is, as there are often outpatient clinics, as well.
Please get him there this weekend. With swollen legs and sores, he may have something very serious, even life-threatening. Congestive heart failure is a real possibility-- go to the ER!

I'd go ahead and go to the ER. They have to give him help whether he has insurance or not AND if he can't afford the payments when the bill comes, he can call and talk to the billing department. The hospital can write off part of it.

Have him go to your local health department.
They have discounted prices and can help him.
