Why was butter, being so unhealthy (in comparison with other oils, namely olive), used so extensively throughout British (and possibly other countries) history as a basic food staple, if it is so unhealthy? (For instance, a line out of a English novel I'm reading says "The wee child had taken ill but to my surprise the next morning devoured a loaf of bread and almost all the butter in the house.") (As if it's a typical breakfast..). Any thoughts?

Many argue that God has given us the choice to believe in him or not to believe, then, should he not respect my choice to make it meaningful, just and fair?
When I am given to choose between two without any negative connotation it is a choice.
But when a law is laid I have no choice because ‘disobedience’ is punished.
And that's what God seems to have done ‘Laid down a rule to believe in Him, if one does not do so he/she dismissed to hell and that too without a hearing’!!
How can such belief be accepted and God considered as Just? Again, is it not pointing a ‘Gun’ at me?

I have been working at a company for four years and I will be getting laid off this summer. My whole department is closing. Of course I don't want to leave without having another job first. And I don't want to lose health insurance. I'm also hesitant to leave right now because I've grown close with my coworkers and it'll make their job harder if I leave now. Any advice? Although some questions are asked in an intelligent manner, I am perplexed. I have seen a question about HIV ( an intelligent question), questions of S & M, and numerous other topics. Why do these constantly fall under the LGBT category. Most sex questions also, no matter the relevance, end up here as well. Is this category just a catch-all for taboo topics that are not mainstream? How can this category become centralized to issues that are relevant to LGBT.

I am not saying that HIV, sex, and S & M cannot be LGBT problems, but the questions only seem to be general.
