does anyone know why brothers michael and lincoln have different last names.

One goes by the fathers last name the other goes by the mothers maiden name. They explained it in season 1.

Michael ended up using their mom's maiden name.

the parents must have split up when they were kids one stayed with dad one stayed with mom...or scofield could be the name of his foster parents...there are many explanations along these lines
