Was baking the Snickerdoodle recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, just pulling the necessary ingredients off the shelves as I went along. and as luck would have it, I did not have all of the required items, namely Cream of Tartar and Vanilla. Also did not have either vinegar or lemon juice, which would substitute for the Cream of Tartar.
CoffeeMate Saved the Day
What was I going to do? Looking through my cubbards I happened upon a container of CoffeeMate, which I considered sort of a vanilla-tasting coffee additive, so I poured ½ Tbs-or so of CoffeeMate in the Snickerdoodle mix, rolled up some balls of cookie dough, stuck them in the oven at 375-degrees for ten minutes, and what cam out at the end was actually pretty darn good. What do you think of that substitution?
