I keep meaning to find out the answer but no-one seems to know. this is a rubber ball, about the size of a squash ball, hanging down from underneath the ironing board on a little chain. there's a hole in it, which tapers inwards.

I wondered whether it might be designed to hold some sort of laundry pen or something, but that seems silly.

Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what this is supposed to be for?

If I go back 5 million years and saw the species that genetically is linked to human beings and chimpanzees, and I made the subjective comment "oh, that looks like a monkey"; in what way shape or form is my comment a scientific fact?

Rather, would it be the hypothesis that we are testing, the genetic link between that monkey looking species, to the human being.

If this test was run, based perhaps on a fossilized animal, a fossilized monkey looking animal, and we were able to confirm that it is indeed a common ancestor,

would it still change the fact that saying it looks like a monkey is not an objective scientific fact, I could say it looks like a horse, so what, or a unicorn or a pony.

The point is, saying something looks like something doesn't make it a scientific fact.

Do you agree with my asssement of the situation. Why or why not.

What is the physical law or property that limits the speed of light to 186,282.397 miles per second in a vacuum? Why can't it go faster? I'm aware of things like Group Velocity and Einstein's velocity addition formula, but those things don't explain the phyiscal limiting property. Does it have to do with the way energy works on the quantum level?

A friend of mine from high school is getting married, and her bridal shower is in a week. I already planned to make her some jewelry for a gift, but I asked my mom if that was okay and she suggested that nowadays, bridal shower gifts should be for both the bride and groom. Is this true? It's hard for me to get a gift for the bride AND groom, since I have never met the groom, and after getting married in the states, they will be moving to London, so all gifts must be very small. I can't think of a lot of "couples" gifts that are small enough to pack on a plane.

Any advice?

This butcher lived in an apartment over his shop. One night he was awakened by
strange noises coming from below, so he tiptoed downstairs and saw his
19-year-old daughter sitting on the chopping block and masturbating with a
liverwurst. The butcher sighed and tiptoed back to bed.
The next morning, when a customer walked in and asked for some liverwurst, the
butcher said that he didn't have any left. The customer was really annoyed; she
pointed to the corner of the shop and asked, "No liverwurst? Well, what's that
hanging on the hook right over there?"
The butcher frowned at her. "That", he replied, "is my son-in-law."
