Me: Chris. I am gay. I recently left prison. I am re-beginning my life. I access the internet at the libraries and internet cafe. As for money, I do small jobs like helping people move and cleaning apartments. I go to an outpatient drug program because I am an alcoholic. I also attend daily AA meetings too. I have a sponsor. I live in a shelter out in Brooklyn. That way I will get good housing. I am on welfare because it is a must for people to get thier lives in order. I need that so I can get help with a job, home and school. In fact, they put me in the outpatient program. So I am about doing what I am supposed to do. I was wondering if you can cross with just a drivers license and birth certificate. It seems that a passport is required at the airport -- are they as strict at the land crossing? Do they treat you differently if you're a Canadian citizen or not (i.e. is it faster)? Do they have to know when you'll be leaving, or can I leave the return date open?

Personally, I've been working fast food all of my life and it's like I"m always around high school kids and I never get to meet a guy who is a businessman, lawyer, doctor, etc, and has a college education. Basically, here's the deal: I'm planning on moving to NYC in around January of 2008, and to plan ahead, I'm wondering what would be the least amount I could expect to pay in housing expenses per month, whether I'm renting or owning. Ideally, I'd prefer to live in Manhattan but I'd be open to any of the burroughs as long as it's safe and I'd be able to commute to the city for work.
