My wife is travelling by greyhound bus and will have a layover at New York City from 3 to 7 a.m. Can anyone tell me how safe this place is, or any tips for her? Thanks.

Anywhere in NY, beware of pickpockets. You see all those muggings in movies, but in RL it's rare. However, crowds are everywhere & so are those trying to take advantage. Keep your $ & ID's in a hard to access place for anyone but you.

Don't leave luggage unattended, don't fall asleep on a bench, stay with your travelling group. If you decide to go out of the station for a meal, don't go alone & don't go far. You'll be right on Times Square, so you won't have to anyway.

The station is safe enough with lots of security, but it's also humongous & you don't want to get lost & be left behind. Bathrooms should be ok. Rush hour starts as early as 5am, so you'll have plenty of company. By 7 when your bus leaves, traffic will be snarled already.

Very safe. It's like a 3-story mall. I've been through there several times. Just tell your wife to use the same level of personal security that she would when travelling anywhere, and she'll be fine. Also, the Port Authority Police have an office in the bus station, and they maintain a high presence in the area.

At that time of the morning it is likely that some shady looking characters will be lurking around. However, they generally keep to thenselves. Police are all over the place, especially at the Port Authority (that's where the Greyhound Station is).
If anyone comes up to her with a sob story about needing money for bus fare, it's most likely just a scam. She should politely state that she can't help them and they should leave her alone.

The Port Authority Terminal is safer than Greyhound stations in most cities. Police are everywhere. She should be fine as long as she doesn't talk to any strangers (I had a few weirdos come up to me, and I'm a guy).

She'll be at Port Authority - IT IS HUGE with lots of people/commuters. She will be fine during that time. Just tell her to keep her wallet hidden and her purse zipped up. THere is a food court, shopping, bowling alley - she'll be fine.

My pal, I merely answer your question in this and that i counseled staying in Jersey city, NJ, which has undemanding accessibility to the Meadowlands NJ Transit from Hoboken. as nicely, you may stay in Jersey city, and take the path practice, from there to the two Midtown, long island or decrease long island. stable success

You'd be surprised at how safe NYC is (Manhattan anyways) - I wouldn't worry, provided she doesn't go wandering into random back alleys.
