New York City

Hi...I just got a new job around lower Central Park though paying $2000 a month for a single person is a bit ridiculous for me.
Im looking to live around New Jersey, Bronx or Queens maximum $1800. Can someone give me a few pointers on great SAFE neighbourhoods to live? And near transportation. A view of Manhattan would be great too. Thanx and have a good day.

Hi!...two of my friends from Australia are coming to visit me at the end of November and I am sooo thrilled about it. When i pick them up from the airport i want to give them each a small gift box with a bunch of things i think they will need or might be able to use as they tour around New York City. The ideas i have right now are: a metrocard, a map of the city, a subway map of the city, and a restaurant guide. I don't want it to be too expensive but i would like the box to get them excited about thier visit and have substantial, useful infromation. Thanks for your help!

I am planning to visit NYC in April 07 and wish to play some acoustic gigs. In Friends, Phoebe plays daytime sets in Central Perk. Does this kind of practice actually occur?

Any good venues/coffeehouses which do this kind of thing? Or is it better to send CDs over before I arrive?

I have to ride the subway on Halloween night from JFK airport to Grand Central at nighttime. Is this dangerous for a female? What kinds of people are on the subway? Is it safe for a female to be riding the NY subway alone at night? I have never been to NY alone and am just concerned.

i've been doing lots of research about new york city and i realize its pretty damn expensive, but im determined to make it work. i know i can shell out $1000 a month (ill be living w/ 1 other person, so $500 each). i have my heart set on Manhattan but i realize its probaly going to be out of my reach. im a little overwhelmed at all the other areas to choose from..bronx, queens etc.. ive heard alot about inwood, wash. heights but dont know too much about them. any suggestions on a nice area, near or in manhattan would be great. *

Okay I'm going to a concert Nov. 10th and it probably won't be over till around 1:30-2 am. Well my Plane leaves at 9 am and I don't think it's worth blowing $300 for a hotel stay for only 7 hours. What's there to do during the twilight hours in the big apple? How late do bars and such stay open? It's my first time going.

i have booked a flight to new york from the 2nd december to the 5th but i am struggling to fine a hotel that is central in manhattan, the sunday and monday do not seem to be a problem, but when i put in the 2nd 3rd 4th and check out the 5th they all seem to be un available i have a budget of about $1000 ish for the 3 nights and i thought i would not have a poblem. does any one know of any hotel that is available at the moment... I am going to graduate in May with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. Very soon after that I am planning on moving to NYC. I am expecting to make at least $30,000 dollars a year once I start my career (just an estimate). I am also planning on living alone and I am wondering if this income is enough for one person to live comfortably in a city such as New York?
