I lived close to London for 2 years, I have to say I hate it. Celebrities make London sound as though it's the best place to be but how can it be when it's a city riddled with nasty violent unnecessary crime, drugs and gangs.

What areas in or around London have the largest concentration of young, single, educated professionals. I'm thinking of hip places where there are a lot of pubs, clubs, nightlife and good retail outlets in the vicinity.

Reason for asking is that they are so often wrong - sometimes the next bus arrives early, sometimes late, sometimes one arrives without ever having been shown.

I'm off to London tomorrow with about 5 of my friends, we've got a whole day to fill but what to fill it with? We've already done all the obvious stuff - Oxford Circus, Leicester Square, Trafalgar, Bucks Palace, Chinatown, most of the free museums etc. but need something new!! Any suggestions?

I don't wanna be the "Ugly American" wanna be polite and blend in a bit and just go with the flow like being respectful to English Culture civil unlike many Americans.
