Glad to see you have set your sights higher than Borehamwood.
Billericay is a nice town with many new houses. The only problem is you come under Basildon Council. Billericay is mainly Conservative of Liberal voters and the Labour majority on the council divert resources and money away from Billericay.

Billericay is a very nice town & I'm sure a great place to raise your kids, it is quite expensive though as it has excellent train links into London so you pay a premium for the commuter status. If you need this then fine, if not you might get more for your money in surrounding areas without such close proximity to a good station.

I loved living in London but wouldn't want to raise kids there, it's a great city but really enjoyed my childhood in the suburbs with garden etc

Good luck !!

I live just down the road from Billericay and its an okay place to live, they have some very good schools there.....

Drugs are everywhere but hopefully if your kids don't fall into the wrong group or they are strong enough to say no it wont be an issue.....

I would not want to raise my children in London

My nan lives there and I think its a really nice place, but like all places it depends where you go as they all have their rough spots. Look around as it has some great facilities and really nice houses, but they aint cheap, but you get what you pay for. mostly its quiet with nice parks and fields, but friday nights in town are typical of other towns, you will find that people will travel into Basildon or Southend for the clubs tho. Hope this helps.
