Hi, I'm not sure where you're from but be prepared to be shocked by how much stuff can cost in London - especially in the inner city or anywhere tourists hang out.
Its probably cheaper to do sightseeing during the day and buy sandwiches and stuff from the supermarkets, then head out into the suburbs at night where the food & drinks are much cheaper.

Yes there are loads of McD's. They have a "Pound saver" menu, where everything is under a pound. You can get a small fries, or a cheese burger or a small drink, but that's already just under £3 and for 50p more you can get a whole burger meal.
Don't know how much you pay in the US for McD's, but by South African standards that is more affordable.
Try having lunch in many of the small cafe's or pubs. It may be nearer to £5 in some cases for a meal, but it's also better sometimes, and the cafe's will have things like warm cooked veg, meat or lasagne for £4, which compaired to £3.50 for a McD's burger with one side is far better.

Yes, they have McDonalds. The price in pounds tends to be similar in number (for many items, not just at McD's) to the price in dollars in the US.
Branch out a bit - instead of McD's, try a pub lunch.

Yes, there are loads of McDonalds in London. Hundreds of the bloody things all over the UK, in fact.
However, we don't have those huge super-size portions you have in the States.
Price is about £3.20-ish for a medium quarter-pounder with cheese meal.
