I don't know if anyone is still here from WW2 that was in something called the Desert Rats. They would have had to be in the English Army & gone to Egypt. It is the first time I am going to a European country. I am going to go to Manchester for a week. I hate to be treated as a stupid stranger so can anybody help me about these questions?

I'm looking for a hotel close to Oxford Circle, somewhere on Oxford street would be best. I know there are plenty of hotel sites online but I'm a woman and admit I'm not very good with maps. Do you know any hotels you could recommend? I don't want to stay anywhere super expensive and not in a rat hole either, something in-between would be nice. A small flat could also work if it's rented out for one night only.
