My daughter and I will be moving from Washington to Iowa in March. She will be a year old then. A plane ticket will cost $300 or more and can be up to a 9 hour trip. Then when I get to the Des Moines airport, my mom would have to drive an hour 1/2 to come pick me up when my plane gets there after midnight (the only time any of the cheaper flights arrive!). I will be traveling alone with my daughter. My second option would be to take Amtrak. This would be convenient because there is a train station in my hometown that I am moving back to, and the arrival times for those trips are around 7:00 in the morning, so getting a ride would not be a problem. But for that, the train from WA to CA takes 19 hrs 44 m, then there is a 5 hour layover, then from CA to IA it is a 42 hr 5m trip. BUT the ticket, with my military discount, is only $176.40. What way should I go? It is already going to cost about $1500 for movers to move our household goods.

I rarely travel over the grapevine and had a quick question. I will be taking a trip in March, does anyone know if during the month of March does it typically snow over the grapevine? Or does it have frequent icy days? Thanks for your help

I might be looking into an itinery that will let me arrive in Houston, TX at 6:38am but then I have to catch a flight to Detroit, MI at 7:15am. Does this sound like ample time?

I was hoping to find a travel buddy to go to NYC with either in late February or early-mid March. Unfortunately all my friends are either broke, can't take off work, or can't get out of school, so I'm assed out and on my own. I found a few pretty good deals through priceline.com for flight and hotel. So if anyone's interested in kickin it w/ me, hit me up. Thanx.

has anyone ridden this line recently? I'm trying to decide between the quite a bit more expensive Sleeping room or the Coach seats. The trip takes just over 2 days with two nights along the way.
I'll be on my own in a 2 bed room with meals included and a turn down service but it costs over $400 more than the coach seat alone. I don't want to pay that unless it's worth it, but I could afford it if it is worth it. This is a question for anyone who has actually ridden an Amtrak train; Coach or Sleeper?

I was thinking New York but it'll probably be very cold that time of year.
Any other ideas, besides Hawaii?

I need to get my passport but here is the problem...I have a different middle name on my birth certificate than on my license or SS card. It's was a typo on the birth certificate and it's only one letter off. Do you think this will cause a problem when trying to get my passport? I don't have time to legally change my birth certificate.
