The Southwest - think Phoenix, Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, White Sands National Monument, Reno, Vegas, Albuquerque, etc. Plenty to see and do...and stay warm!

We went to Cancun in early December. It rained quite a bit, but we still had plenty of time to get some sun on the beach and around the pool bar. It was almost chilly enough at night for a jacket, but not quite. We are going to Thailand in March. Mid 80's in the daytime, mid 70's at night. The big cost is the plane ticket, but if you keep looking, you can get one for less than $900. Once you are there, hotels, food and sightseeing is very cheap. We have a bungalow on the beach at a 4 star resort for $37 per night, and we could have gone cheaper, but this place was recommended by a friend. $25 per night in a nice place is common, and 2 people can eat like royalty for $15, including the tip.

San Diego is a great vacation starter spot. It is warm and lovely and there is plenty to do there or you can rent a car and drive up the coast a bit to LA or Santa Babara.
