I might be looking into an itinery that will let me arrive in Houston, TX at 6:38am but then I have to catch a flight to Detroit, MI at 7:15am. Does this sound like ample time?

I also forgot to mention, yes, they are both Continental airlines.

if it is the same airline, it is probably in the same wing of the terminal- so you have a decent chance. doors close 10 minutes before takoff, so realistically- you will have about 15-20 minutes to get to the next gate. you are probably ok if you are near the exit (front) of the plane. try to have them move you. also, sit on the aisle. finally, don't check in anything. your bags probably won't make it if there are any delays.

If you are on the same airline for both, then yes it would be enough time, They have to wait a certain amount of time if your first flight is late to allow for those connections. This just happened to my brother a couple of months ago.

If different airlines for each, connections need about 45 min in between flights because 9 times out of 10, the gates you arrive and depart from are very far apart and you have to make a run for it. And then only if you have carry on luggage and not checked. I would call the Detroit flight airline to confirm if I were you.

Houston to Detroit

I am guessing you're flying Continental or Northwest.

I have traveled through Houston a lot. 30 minutes should be fine. The airport is configured in a big X with three major corridors of gates. If you are connecting within the same airline. )Continental flight to continental flight for example) you shouldn't have a problem. If you are changing carriers it may take a bit longer.

Inform your gate agent when you arrive at the airport of your connection, and ask them to tell you in advance what gate you will be landing at and what gate you need to leave from. In the back of the in-flight magazine, you will find maps of the airport which will allow you to figure out where you need to go in advance.
