My friend and I are planning a 1month long backpacking trip through Latin America in May (we're 2 guys in our late twenties). Any suggestions on the best countries or route to take either in South or Central America? (advice on safety, cheap destinations, weather, people, and culture is helpful in your explanations)

Some possible routes include:
1) Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador
2) South Mexico (Yucatan), Guatemala, Belize, Honduras
3) Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador
4) Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela

Thanks in adavance!!!

I will be taking a company trip to Montevideo for a week in October. I want to visit another South American place but have limited time and budget (about US$1.3k). Should I go to Lima, Cuzco and Macchu Pichu for the obvious reasons? Or Santiago to see the best night skies in the world? Or El Calafate to see glaciers and the Patagonian landscape? Or should I just stick to Uruguay? I don't mind only doing one thing, because it's the quality of the experience that counts for me.

Mexican Radio - Wall of Voodoo (Mexican, Tijuana)
Orinoco Flow - Enya (Peru)
Island Girl - Elton John (Jamaica)
Kokomo - the Beach Boys (Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas, Martinique, Port au Prince)
Hips Don't Lie - Shakira (Colombia)
Runaway - Janet Jackson (Mexico)
Panama - Van Halen (Panama)
Latin Girls - Black Eyed Peas (Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Havana)
Don't Cry for Me Argentina - Madonna (Argentina)

I'm traveling with my 2 daughters both under 7 years old. I lived in Popayan 25 years ago but I don't look Colombian. We are concerened about the road from Cali to Popayan and any possible diseases my children could catch. We are staying for just a week with relatives. My husband and I are concerned about safety and diseases. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We are an American family thinking about moving overseas. We are leaning more towards Honduras than anywhere else because we have some connections there. We are looking for a simpler life. We have traveled there so we know there are safety issues, language issues, etc. But, aside from that we want some input about doing this. We just want to make sure we've thought about and considered everything. Thanks for your input.

I'm thinking of going on a jungel trek in the amazon. Obviousley there will be loads of bugs, bats, snakes, spiders etc, so how easy is it to deal with the very wild environment ? Is it enough just to take plenty of bug repelant, moskito net and a good medical kit or is there anything else that I need to consider?
