I'm traveling with my 2 daughters both under 7 years old. I lived in Popayan 25 years ago but I don't look Colombian. We are concerened about the road from Cali to Popayan and any possible diseases my children could catch. We are staying for just a week with relatives. My husband and I are concerned about safety and diseases. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you drive or take the bus from Cali to Popayan, you deserve to have your children taken away for reckless stupidity. FARC controls that region.

There are daily flights on Avianca from Bogota.

Diseases aren't really an issue - immunization for Hepatitis B just in case of a cut or scrape and you'll be okay.

Popayan is a charming town and I'm sure you'll have a great time there, so long as you are not kidnapped on the way by the guerrillas.

Did you understand how dangerous the road is between the two towns?
