We are an American family thinking about moving overseas. We are leaning more towards Honduras than anywhere else because we have some connections there. We are looking for a simpler life. We have traveled there so we know there are safety issues, language issues, etc. But, aside from that we want some input about doing this. We just want to make sure we've thought about and considered everything. Thanks for your input.

The benefits of moving overseas are the cultural experience and that usually you can have a better quality of life IF you have money. If you have a salary in dollars and move to a country in Latin America you will usually do well.

Here's a website for people who are planning on moving somewhere else; it is written by Americans who are living in other countries or who have already been through the experience. Check what they might have to say about Honduras. Hope this helps.

I think it depends on your motivations and your support. I lived in Europe for several years with my family and enjoyed it, but it was the most stress our family has ever been through with language and cultural barriers. We were there because of my husband's company and made terrific money, but the tax equalization and complications were horrendous. Our children also had to deal with coming back to American schools and integrating what they had learned in the international school system. There are many factors to consider, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The "dirty little secret" about immigration/emmigration is that if you are unhappy where you are, you will be just as unhappy where you move to. The ONLY exception is for those folks who move because they are being persecuted, and as an immigrant to the US, I know that the only people in America that are being persecuted are those who want to be!

And just so you have your facts straight, there are no "safety issues"...The USA has the world's highest rates for almost all violent crimes, robberies, rapes, murders, etc....

honduras sounds unsaafe to me. ive read in the wsj that panama is becoming a favourite for american retirees. then again, safety. if ur concern is safety id suggest chile --no safety problems, most developed nation in the region. argentina is prettier but then its so volatile. the south of brazil is hot! then again, safety. id say chile is ur best shot!

If you are looking for a simpler life, stay in America, life is though in spanish countries!! wages are low, crime is high, no good place to live

Bear in mind that life is not a holiday!

I'd love to live in America, I spent there sometime and loved it, life is simple there
