I will be going to Bogota soon to finalize an adoption of a older Colombian girl. I have 3 children at home ages 9-14. We are from the states. I think it would be wonderful cultural experience for my children to be there at least a week and they have spring break. I will be there for at least a month. My husband is concerned for their safety. He and I can blend in a bit better, however they are all blonde, blue eyed. Of course with this entorage we cannot get one taxi for the 6 of us OR can we? Do they have taxi vans??!!

Also any safe excursions away from Bogota I would love to hear about. I know there are a few things to see in Bogota, but we also would love to be able to enjoy or view the countryside if possible. We ourselves live in the country.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank You from Ohio, USA.

A few friends and I are going to Belize tomorrow for a couple of days. We're probably going to stay at a hostel or less expensive inn. We've never been there before so and this is kind of a travel on a whim sort of thing. We'll be flying into Belize City. Does anyone have suggestions on where we should go and what we should see?

And Central America too. Buenos Aires is one, I suppose. What about the others? By "cosmopolitan" I mean with hip, sophisticated people, interesting architecture, lots of things to see and do, and a pleasure to explore on a Saturday afternoon. Gracias, amigos y amigas.

I'm probably gonna be going to Guyana this summer for a missions trip. I don't have a lotta details, but I know we're going to be spending quite a bit of time in the jungle. What kind of dangers should I expect?! Like what sicknesses could I get (malaria and stuff like that??)? What animals might I come across?

THANKS!

I am looking for a latin country for the following reasons in order of importance:
1. improve spanish
2. work with kids
3. lose the materialistic get back to basics
With that stated I am trying to find a place in which im not completely cut off to some niceties( i dont wanna be 500 miles from a big city) like a good dance club from time to time and must be close to a coast/beach. Also a country that has a diverse demographic and in cases of it not being diverse is not widely known for being open and/or not racist. Basically I want to be able to walk the streets without people looking like they've seen a ghost (la negrita) but at the same time I don't want to just blend in with every other person. After cutting my original location of Cuba I am finding it very difficult to narrow it down to another country or city. I can accept the diff. culture of C. & S. America vs the latin caribbean but would prefer being in places more liberal. Any positive input would be greatly appreciated

I've been a few times and plan to go again in June with my church on a mission trip to Mulukuku. We plan to take some teenagers with us. Some people are telling me that since the political situation has changed they don't reccommend any of us going. I'm going anyway; but am concerned about the kids going. Any advice from someone that has been there recently or is living there now? Thanks

I am considering attending a study travel program for a month. The destinations I have to choose from are the following: -Argentina: Buenos Aires, Cσrdoba, Bariloche, Mendoza -Bolivia: Sucre -Chile: Santiago de Chile -Costa Rica: Flamingo Beach, Heredia, Monteverde -Cuba: Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Trinidad -Ecuador: Quito -Guatemala: Antigua -Mexico: Guanajuato, Playa del Carmen, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta -Peru: Cuzco -Republica Dominicana: Santo Domingo.
I am going to be provided accomodation by a host family, but I am still worrying about safety cause my spanish is less than elementary, I am a pale white 19 years old girl (ideal victim!), and I am going there on my own!
Which of these destinations are the safest? I am looking for a small, safe town by a beach, is there anything like that amongst these places?
I was told to go for Costa Rica (Flamingo beach) is it safe?
Thank you for your time!

I'll be coming back to the U.S. from a contract job after 18 months on site and want to take a nice long vacation. I don't want to spend more then $15,000 US and want to live as nicely as possible. I'm 30 y.o., single and plan on having my 15 y.o. and 14 y.o. nieces visit for about a month when school is out. I like to dive and have a PADI Master Diver rating so would like to spend at least a while near the ocean. I've had two semesters of Spanish in college and am using the Rosetta software to improve my spanish. I like to fish and would like a little time near a lake. Archaeology is of interest to me so I've been thinking Peru or Mexico but not really decided yet. I plan on starting the vacation around May. Apartments or casas preferable to hotels. I really just want to take a vacation where I can sit around a little but still have things to do so I'm not bored out of my mind. Where would the best place be to stay in Latin America?

I am going to Argentina soon. It is not my first time going there, because I am from there. Anyways, what city should I go to, other than Buenos Aires. I am going to more than one place.
