A few friends and I are going to Belize tomorrow for a couple of days. We're probably going to stay at a hostel or less expensive inn. We've never been there before so and this is kind of a travel on a whim sort of thing. We'll be flying into Belize City. Does anyone have suggestions on where we should go and what we should see?

If you are going to Belize City, instead jump on the ferry boats and head over to Cauye Caulker - its a tiny island that is great for seafood, snorkelling, kayaking and generally relaxing in a hammock somewhere!!! If you have time, go to the snorkelling/diving place pretty much in the middle of the island on the right of the main street (can't remember the name of it) - it's a little white shack run by a British woman. They do half day/full day snorkel trips on a sailboat including swimming through coral, with fish and sharks and rays for US$40-50 for the whole day. Thats your best bet!

Then once you are snorkelled out, head to the bar up on the opposite end from the Lazy Lizard or whatever it was called for a bar decked out with swings for chairs for a few Cuba Libres.

Also, the locals are great value - just be sure to have a sense of humour with the men (their pickup lines are hilarious!)
