There's a lot of great hotels in Cartagena, but if you are going for New Years then you want to be in the old city where all the celebrations take place. Usually they place all kinds of bands around " La Plaza de Santo Domingo" and everyone dances in the street. If you stay in other hotels near "El Laguito" or Bocagrande" that have better beaches but are farther from the old city, you will find it hard to find any transportation back to your hotel that night. Everybody will be partying including the bus and taxi drivers. We have had to walk back home before.

Some of the best hotels near the old city are:

-Sofitel Santa Clara
-Charleston (Santa Teresa)

Other good hotels are:

- Hotel Las Americas
- Hotel Hilton
- Hotel Caribe
- Hotel Decameron

Here's a website for some more info and more hotels depending on your budget. Enjoy your trip, you'll have a ball!!

Santo Domingo may be the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European city in the Americas and if you want to see one of the UNESCO World Heritage List then, that hotelbye may be the place. Santo Domingo is really a collage of cultures and neighborhoods. It's where in fact the appears of life, domino parts smacked on tables, backfiring mufflers and horns from severe traffic. In one's heart of the city may be the Zona Colonial, wherever you will find one of the oldest churches and the oldest surviving European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you will discover Gazcue, among the city's oldest neighborhoods, full of previous Victorian houses and tree-lined streets.

Not las Americas, the absolute worst experience of my life. The service was horrific, and they made numerous illegal charges to my account. Never again.
