I have many old English and Irish coins that I'm confused about..

The Irish ones have picutres of birds, fish, etc. on them, and have numbers and P after them. That means pence, right? How many pence are in a pound?

Also, I have some coins that I'm not sure where they're from. They're silver in color and have a crown with a lion on them on one side, and on the other they say "GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR :OMN : REX"

Any help would be appreciated!

I am taking a trip to Athens in June, but flights to Athens from the US are really expensive. Is there another city I should fly into, and then get cheap tickets from there to Athens on RyanAir or some other regional airline?

Hey all:

If you had 10 free days in Europe and wanted a very stylish, beachy scene, perferably stay at an upscale resort where would you go? Dubai and St. Tropez are possibilities but nothing is making me all that excited. Any cities that you think are must go for 2007?

Thank you :)

I am planning a trip to Italy/Switzerland/Germany (and possibly Prague) in mid-August, but lots of people tell me I shouldn't go because lots of places will be shut down due to the long vacations that Europeans take in mid August. Is this true? I am only planning to stay in Italy for 2-3 days, and 2-3days in Switzerland - beginning August 7th or 8th. Please help!

I heard somewhere that there's a whole city somewhere in Europe built on water...like some kinda floating city or something...and then...when I think about it...watching Ocean's 12...and the group of people lifted a house in some place in Europe to break into it to get something valuable. ...anyways...if there's such thing....what's the city called? how'd they build it?

Include links for more information if possible

My friend and I are trying to plan a trip to Europe this summer. We are both 18, fresh out of high school, and neither of us has ever been to Europe.
We want to go on a 1-2 week tour with people around our age that either stays in the UK (England, Wales, etc) or hits the major cities of Europe (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Venice, etc).
The thing is, we have no idea which tour company to choose! We've heard both good and bad things about Topdeck and Contiki, but I have a feeling there are lesser-known companies that would give great and affordable tours.
Also, although we don't have a ton of money, we'd rather stay away from hostels/camping trips, etc. Hotels would be preferable. If the tour in question includes airfare in the price as well, that would be great.

So our question is, what tour company would you recommend? Is there one you've been on that gave you a great experience, or one you would recommend we stay away from? Thanks for the help!

Hey, I am Eighteen and soon to leave my Sixth Form and desperately want to see the world...New York, Tokyo, Japan, Australia and Thailand....I have no friends that want to do the same thing so am alone. I was looking into YHA and they are as cheap as £10 a night but you have to share with other people....If I didn't then it would cost me + £40 a night too much....My question is isn't it surely irresponsible and unsafe to share a YHA room with total strangers... I mean too be realsitic they could kill you in your sleep, do awful things....So hwo do people travel abroad cheaply on a gap year with their own rooms?

I'm looking for people who may have been successful finding work in Spain without a work permit, temporary jobs in tourism/bars/restaurants for a couple months, part-time. Were you paid cash? Is it impossible to find this kind of work as a non-European? I'm traveling to Spain in May for the summer.

I need to know what country doesn't allow cars at all. Busses are allowed, bicycles and pedestrian vehicles are allowed, but no cars are allowed. I'm thinking Vatican City, Andorra, Malta, etc: one of the smaller European countries, but I need to be sure.
