I have many old English and Irish coins that I'm confused about..

The Irish ones have picutres of birds, fish, etc. on them, and have numbers and P after them. That means pence, right? How many pence are in a pound?

Also, I have some coins that I'm not sure where they're from. They're silver in color and have a crown with a lion on them on one side, and on the other they say "GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR :OMN : REX"

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes Irish coins have pictures of animals on them.
As one dollar is 100 cents , 1 pound is 100 pence (one penny is like one cent).
The coin with Georges VI written on it must be english as Georges VI was the King of the United Kingdom from 1936 to 1952 and the lion is the emblem of England.

Local coin shop or numismatics dealer should be able to guide you, also books in library about old english coins. There is a website that deals exclusively in the buying and selling of coins, although, I am sorry to say, I don't know the name of it. But the first two , should lead you in the right direction.
