i'll go to seoul in april and i think it would be clever to know a little more about the to do's and not to do's in seoul :)
so, i'm wondering about all the things i should not do, like how do i greet a korean? shake hands, make a bow?
what can i do or say in order not to insult any koreans?
what are the absolute NOT TO DO'S???
it would be quite helpful to know more about their behaviours and manners before i get there ;)

I was a linguist in the U.S. Army, I went to school for 1 year at the Defense Military Institutes in Monterrey California, needless to say, I can speak Korean to a certain level of fluency. When I was in South Korea, I would speak Korean to someone on the subway and they would look at me as if I were trying to rob them, sometimes, of course. Some of my korean friends have told me that some korean people are shocked that an African American can speak the language period, and especially shocked that one can speak it so well.

You can also say a throat singer if you have any favorites.

I am 17 years old, and will be traveling with a few friends (all 18 years old) to S. Korea for 10 days. I have a passport and all that. However, I'm wondering if I need any sort of parental consent to leave the country...?

I've read some horror stories over the net about slimeball recruiters and even more shady hogwan owners. Apparently withholding pay, passports and changing contracts and working hours are the order of the day in many English teaching institutes in S.Korea.I've even read stories where airfare and severance bonuses (as agreed to and signed by all parties concerned) were also withheld. I'm applying for positions through ParkEnglish.com. Can anyone tell me whether they're reliable? Are there reliable recruiters for Korean teaching jobs?If so, who can you recommend?

I know that you cannot get a work visa for teaching English in Korea unless you have a degree. I have a friend that says if you go into the country on a visitor's visa, then find a job while you are there, you can apply for a work visa and get aroung the degree issue. Does anyone know if this is true?
