I heard a story about an older Korean man who rebuked a young Korean man who was making derogatory comments about Americans. The older man reminded the young man about how Americans came to help them fight in the 1950s. But then I was reading this morning about the new Korean movie "The Host," and how badly Americans are portrayed in it (it's an American who puts the chemicals in the Han river which cause the mutations that create the monster). I've also seen anti-Americanism in movies like "Typhoon" (in which an American ship fires on a raft of immigrants).

Does anyone have any insights into this? What are the reasons for it?

hi, if anyone can help me with the title of a movie. i'm sure that jeon ji jhuyn acts in it and with the same guy from 'Windstruck', but can't seem to find it anywhere on the web. i somehow downloaded this little 'preveiw' of that movie and really really want to watch it but dont knw the title or if it's out yet, but i downloaded it years ago =/. in the clip it started out as ji jhyun crahes a wedding with her car perposely (typical her ehhehehe) and throw the cake at the groom. Can anyone please help me figure it out? thank you!

A friend of mine is a chinese american. He met this girl from Korea in their campus while studying architecture.
They love each other and plan to get married soon after graduation.
I know little about korean people, but I do know xenophobia is strong in Korea.
The young man family can accept the girl, but she seem hasn't tell her parents about her boyfriend yet.
Being a single child of her parents she wants his boyriend to live in Korea near her parents.

My question is can the korean people accept such intermarriage because of their xenophobia?
If they live in Korea can the neighbours accept them or alienating them instead?
And I doubt the boy can easily search for a job in the Korea
They're still young and naive. I don't want them to make a rush decision that they will regret.

Any advice will be appreciated, especially from expat who used to live in Korea, thanks

There's a Korean term, I've never seen it written, but it's supposed to be something mildly derogatory (like something you'd say to tease your computer friends by calling them "geeks"). Apparently its literal meaning is "rice head." Ever heard of this term?

There are a few issues here: Korea has its own (Korean) version of Vista; Amazon and other online companies won't send me an English version. Is it legal to order (via Amazon) to an address in the states, then have it sent to me overseas?

Everyone hears about Japan and China, but not usually Korea. Korea seems to always be left behind in the tourist guides. This being said, what is Korea like? Geographically, culturally, ethnically, etc? Also, besides the politics and economy, how are south korea and north korea alike and different?

Okay, the negatives are quite obvious, so I want you to think the opposite, and tell me the good qualities of North Korea.

I won a slot in an exchange student program and I want to know even in broad strokes the things that I should be expecting. Knowing something in advance makes me feel more comfortable, more in control. Your answers would definitely help me to adjust in a new culture.
Thanks.
