If you've got loads of money, go to Japan. It's cleaner, quieter, and the nightlife is wild. But get ready to come back poor. If money is an issue, you're better off flushing $1000 down the toilet and looking at postcards of Japan. The culture is amazing, the temples are beautiful, but you will spend all your money.

I agree with the above answer, in that you shouldn't expect Korea to be like what you see in the dramas. (As a side note, Koreans have that same problem with Hollywood: they think that everyone in America is "packin' heat"!)
That being said, you can have a great time in Korea, with welcoming Korean people, eating good meals for $5 and sleeping in motels for $25-30 a night.

So, in other words, if you want to see the beauty and serenity of the backgrounds from the Korean dramas, go to Japan. But it'll cost you.

I guess there are many things to look at before choosing one. For example, what time of the year you will be going, how long you'll be staying, what you'll be looking for, how much you're willing to spend, etc.I've been to both, but I would say they're both similar to one another. What you should determine is which culture do you appreciate better?

In Japan, you will find some WILD people especially in cities and of course the technology is outstanding. Their culture is largely based on shinto, where they worship many gods. So you will find many things that are almost mythic-like. (Personally, I don't like that.) But the good thing about Japan is that the people are relatively nicer than in Korea and their art is amazing.

In Korea, you will probably find very fashionable people. In reference to the places you saw in Korean dramas--I'll just tell you that what you see isn't everything. The dramas pick some of the most expensive and best designed places in Korea to film. But those places are there!!

Personally, I would rather visit Korea (again), well, because it's my hometown!!

If you are interested in travel for natural beauty, you will find it in both Japan and Korea if you leave the cities. Japan's Shinto influences have led them to appreciate nature, so you can certainly find it there, as well as in Korea.

I have been to Japan, and I loved being there however, I am also interested in traveling to Korea. Since you posted this question in the "Korea" category and you are intrigued by Korea's natural beauty, I feel like Korea may be the place for you to travel!

Neither of these is a bad travel choice. You can find what you are looking for in both countries. I think it's impossible to say that one is "better" because everyone is looking for a different thing when they travel, so it is really up to you!

They are both beautiful countries. Korea might be more affordable than Japan and the Korean people are very friendly.
You can also learn the Korean alphabet (fairly) easily, which will help you to understand road signs etc.

I've traveled to Korea twice and I'm a huge fan of their movies and dramas. It's quite fun for me to watch them now and recognize someplace I have been. I work in China which means I'm not making much by US standards, but Korea was still very affordable for me. I really don't have much desire to see Japan, maybe because it's too expensive for me. However, I would go back to Korea in a heartbeat if I hadn't slated some Southeast Asian countries for my next big holiday.

My husband was stationed in Korea and to this day he says it's still one of his favorite places he's ever been. He loved it there and if it weren't for our daughter being born prematurely, he would have stayed an extra year and had us move over there with him.

I myself can attest to their food being absolutely amazing! My husband thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of the Korean people as well as the art involved in the culture.
