The first place that comes to mind is Cairo. But where else could we go? We thought about spending two weeks there.
We went to Morocco this year, so we're not really worried about getting hassled too much, but any other advice would be really welcome. Thanks.

There ar no respect for them it's because of matter of their sking people are being beaten to death like doggs everyday.. thousands of them are being attacked by gang on the streets and a lot die everyday on the street of cairo.. Egyptian people are only friendly to who ever have money and they're really really racism people agains the AFrican people specially Sudanese who mainly live there alot of them have flight Sudan because of the Civil war.. Life in Egypt is really dark that you're life is in danger too.. Many people that live in good places in Egypt don't feel that discrimination but try to explore the the whole Cairo.. Metro and buses and that's when you see how much discrimination is taking affect..

I should've elaborated more on my other ?. But when I was referring to san francisco and berkeleys openness, I didn't mean the homosexuality factor since it's such taboo in egypt although it happens everywhere; I meant the pervading artists atmosphere as well as the numerous peace activists and general acceptance of whatever religion, race or belief someone has...

Hi, I'm just curious if this is an alexandrian phenomenon or if it is even half way true. Also, I am targeting the average middle class egyptian to answer this question since I'm well aware that family money can buy anyone a position even if they're not bright. Am simply interested in trying to understand what the big picture is for an everyday egyptian. I've visited the area and had never seen such depressed gazes. Even the eyes of the poor in mexico didn't look so sad. Of course there was the direct antithesis of happiness (perhaps false since how can someone be truly happy and worry free{to a point, of course}in a country w/ an economic depression) and great hospitality...and what about the women in society? is their pay less for the same job that the men do as is the pay scale in the U.S.A.?

So, I won't smoke. Not that big of deal.

For the bigger picture though, my family figured out I was pregnant the last time I was there because I was so sick and tired. They knew then that I wasn't married. I'm more worried about how to respond, when and if the subject arises. I would avoid the subject all together otherwise. I am not emarrassed about the situation, I just don't want problems.

I am half Egyptian and I am going on a trip starting tomorrow to visit family and travel around. Is it bad for a woman to smoke? I don't want my dad to look bad. As it is I have a daughter and I am not married...Will people make comments about this? Do some Egyptian women smoke or have kids outside of marriage?

We don't have a clue how to get him a Visa to travel back to the U.S. with me, once we are officially married. And we are both very limited in our finances. Neither of us have a clue what to do to prepare for this life-changing occasion. Can he even come here once we are married? Someone please help! We are in love, and don't know what to do! please help.

Please help settle this argument. I have a friend who said without a doubt all egyptian men want to have children. I surely don't think he can speak for an entire nation of men. I know children are an important part of Egyptian culture, but surely with so many people in the country, there is boud to be a few who do not desire to raise children. It is an individual's choice I think. What do you think?
