I've heard that around 90% of women have had this procedure done to them in Egypt. Is this true? Why is it so common? And how common is it in the cities like Cairo, Alexandria, Giza? Or is it also as common there as it is in the villages?

During my time there ( Luxor), I never saw one Egyptian using the footpath! Adults and children alike would saunter along, sometimes three abreast, oblivious of the traffic! There MUST be a reason for this.

I would like to know if it is possible to swim in Hurghada, Sharm and other Egyptian resorts in January. Are there any tourists swimming there at this part of year (I know it is too cold for locals)?

My father-in-law is treating me to a cruise down the nile at the end of January, when Ill be six months pregnant. Im really looking forward to it and am a seasoned traveller, having been all over africa and south america in the past. Therefore Im aware of how easy it is to get jelly belly when u r not pregnant, and how to try to avoid it, such as not eating salads, soups, peel fruit etc. However, now im pregnant in a little more concerned than usual. Is there any other precautions, apart from the usual, that I should take in terms of food and drink. Im planning to take some non-perishables with me just n case, but am gonna have to eat local food and buffets probably. Also, People on here have advised me not to go at all because of locals who may harass me and jostle me etc and have said it is not safe. What is your opinion? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks
