Even if Zidane didn't get ejected France still would have lost in penalty kicks. If he was still in the lineup, Zidane would have been the 4th or 5th player to attempt a kick. France would not have a player play for 120 minutes and then have him kick first or second. France would get Zidane as much rest as possible. The 2nd kicker for France still would have hit the crossbar with Zidane in the lineup or not.

FRANCE...YOU LOST...GET OVER IT AND GET BACK TO MAKING FRIES...NOT CRIES!!!

Some people think that Zidane was justified in attacking the italian player for returning an insult to him. I noticed that people are bashing Italians alot here and on the web. By this logic, it would be ok for an Italian to physically harm you for all the italo-bashing going on.

Doesn't anyone find it a bit unjust that Zidane who assaulted another player, and could have sent him to the hospital with a broken sternum or worse is being treated like a victim
While Materazzi who argueably used some harsh insult is being taken to trial by Fifa?

This reward for bad behavior is exactly what makes terrorism thrive. A terrorist blows himself up in a market and instead of being condemned, people wonder "why". You hear them whine on every talk show and newscast "What is making these poor people do these terrible things" instead of focusing on the evil act itself.
BTW, I'm not calling Z a terrorist, I'm using an examples so don't get your panties all bunched up.

In all likelyhood, M probably said "figlio di putana". Which, is the English equivelant of Son of a b***. A very common (although uncalled for) comment that is probably used thousands of times on the field of every game imaginable. Not even close to Zidane's attempt to hospitalize another player.

Why don't we go to see 'Superman', or watch 'Lost' on TV and leave that two men to themselves. The FIFA is making an investigation so why all the fuss.

Don't you know that these football players all earn AT LEAST an income of 100,000US$ per WEEK excluding bonus and advertisement contracts. They can afford a 5000 US$ -5-star-hotel suite, own luxurious yacht, houses in Spain, Italy and France, beautiful wives and mistresses and here we are, fighting like mad dogs and cats, throwing insults and calling each other, become country-haters for them.

I don't know about you, but I am leaving and get a life somewhere.
