I am planning to spend a little more on a bicycle, because I intend on putting it to good use. What are considered the more high-quality, durable, and comfortable bikes on the market? I am thinking about a mountain bike.

If the UCI is so concerned with the state of doping in the sport why don't they invoke life time bans similar to the ones in Track and Field??

My hands still go numb no matter what adjustments I have made to riding position. I am wondering if 1.5" riser bars will help. I have Specialized low rise XC bars on my stumpy now.

I am a complete beginner looking to buy a decent bike which I would use on the roads to get fit and to also commute to work. There is the odd occasion where I might take it onto mud tracks, but not often. I like the Claud Butler Chinook or Levante (both road bikes) or a Claud Butler Urban 100 (a hybrid bike).

Apart from the obvious (road bikes being faster and unsuitable for off-roading and hybrids being abit of everything) whats the difference? And which would you reccommend??

Any advice on this would be really really appreciated! Thanks!!

I'm a totally amateur bike rider. I want a new bike and like the looks of the Electra Townie 21, and the Electra Townie 7D. The description on the first bike says...'Shimano Tourney 21-Speed'. The description on the latter bike says...'Shimano Tourney 7-Speed Derailleur'. Besides the number of gears, what's the difference in the derailleur system, or whatever it is? Is one better than the other?
Also, if you have any knowledge of Electra bikes (good or bad) please enlighten me before I make my purchase! Thanks.

Yes, you heard it here, er, first (although the info has been available for some time). Due to cost constraints much of Cannondale frame production- aluminum and carbon fiber- could be moving from Taiwan and China to Vietnam.

There are VERY few Cannondale frames made in the U.S. anymore. Don't believe me? Call the factory since the dealer probably doesn't know. The "Made in the US" sticker refers only to assembly of the bike, not construction of the parts.

Don't kill the messenger...

I'm out on single track a lot, and would love a bike that gets me uphill just as well as it gets me downhill. I have an entry level mtn. bike that I definitely need to turn in, which is front suspension only, and I'm ready to have clip-ins. There are so many options out there, that I would like some kind of advice on what's good, bad, and necessary.

can you have a tag-a-long (one of those kiddies bikes with no front wheel, which attaches to the back of the adult bike) attached at the same time as an ordinary childs seat? what if i was to get a childs seat that attaches to the front of the bike, instead of the rear, and had the tag-a-long at the back....anything wrong with that?

I'm newly interested in doing triathlons. I actually competed in my first one this weekend with a borrowed bike. The chain broke on mile 2 of the 13.4 mile ride.... I finished the race but not with good time (carrying a bike 10+ miles is not fun!!!). I think the race this weekend was a sign to take the plunge for a new bike. I will be using it to commute to work 3 times a week (approx. 26 miles one way), will be using it to train and to race in triathlons. I hope to start doing longer distance triathlons in the next few years. There are so many bicycles options out there I'm lost!! I'm looking to spend no more than 1500. Is that doable and what are some recommendations? I'm looking to purchase a new, not used, bike as I don't want to risk a repeat from this weekend. Thanks for the help. Take care and ride safe : )

I am going nuts trying to buy a bike. I am going to bike shops and getting very conflicting information. I don't know if I am getting fed a line of BS because someone is trying to make a commission or what.

My situation is that I am a good athlete that is new to cycling. I had a bike when I was a kid, but haven't been on a bike in years. I am a 30 year old male, 6'2" and 240 lbs. I am not looking to join the X-Games or Tour de France. I want a good bike that I can ride around on for excercise and enjoyment, mainly on pavement, but would also like to be able to go off road a bit. I would ride 3 to 6 days a week. One salesman told me the Trek Navigator 3.0 was the way to go. A different shop told me the Trek 7200 hybrid. Another shop told me to get a Gary Fisher mountain bike. Last shop I went to was hardcore about a Fuji bike. I am trying to educate myself and make a smart purchase, but it is difficult with all of the conflicting information.

It has been 100% proven lance did epo in the 99 tour, 6 frozen urine samples through various stages (most that he won) PROVED he took EPO during the race. He was "Trained" by pro-tour doping specialist Dr. Ferrari until the gentle doctor was found guilty of teaching cyclists how to dope and get away with it. ALL of his closest competitors during his tour wins were associated with or found to have used enhancing drugs! Furthermore, his cancer could be attributed to the various types of steroids he was using while he was coached by Chris Carmichael while on the US national team. Please try to explain how I am wrong intelligently. And try not to use the smelly people as an excuse!!

I know this is a strange sounding question... you should just sit on the seat... but it seems as if I have better performance when I move up on the nose of the seat, although it isn't comfortable. I have played with the fore/aft of the seat and believe I have it where it is needed, but I wonder if I shouldn't move the seat back a bit and sit more on the nose? I have fairly big legs for a cyclist and sitting more on the back seems to limit my performance, like my hamstrings are hitting the side of the seat more? I have tried to see where exactly the pros sit, but it is hard to tell.

Thanks for all your advice given to first bike question. I have been to bike shop in my town. It is not a massive shop and seemed to have limited stock. Anyway my question is : Should my feet be on tip toes or not?
The first bike i sat on my toes were on tip toes and man said this was ok but it seemed like bike was too big for me. Also the seat was agony and i was only sitting on it for about 30 seconds. The second bike was smaller and felt better but again the seat was uncomfortable. The man said he could put a different seat on it.
I am going back tomorrow to try another one but it is a bigger one again - any advice?

I have a 52cm Cannondale and wanted to replace the fork. Is there different fork sizes? If so which size would I need? Also is a fork that's threaded only for quill stems and threadless forks are for threadless stems? thanks

I just bought a used R300 road bike and hate the stock coda quill stem that came with it. I'm looking on ebay for a threadless stem because I think they look cooler. Anyways if I buy a threadless stem would it fit my R300 is there anything I should look for, or do all threadless stems fit most road bikes. thanks
