What must occur before humans will stop relying on a belief in deities, spirits, invisible powers, etc.? Or will that darkness of thought always be upon us?

It has long been obvious that most (all?) religious beliefs can be traced back to a gross lack of knowledge about the planet and the life forms on it, as well as the universe in general. As recently as the founding of the US in the late 1700s, it was not generally accepted that rocks could fall from the sky, but now we accept meteorites as a simple fact. Must a certain number of generations pass with a sufficiently-high level of knowledge before religion is scrapped? Or will science always take a back seat to closed minds of the type who claim that dinosaurs never existed and dinosaur bones were placed there by the devil to confuse us?

Will critical thought ever win out, or will we always be burdened by belief in the Bible, psychics, Feng Shui, horoscopes, and every other scrap of imaginative nonsense?

All Christians are so serious. My question got deleted, some1 asked a similar thing of Athiests paying them out and it never got deleted. So its ok for christians to pay out athiests but not the other way?

By the way I gave it all up the other night because of a lot of stuff on here, and also after talking to a priest who said to me christians are too serious as of late and are way too pushy, imo he said get out while you can, i would if i could. I feel sorry for him, he is trapped.

Religion fascinates me a lot because there are so many of them, and they are all similar, yet different. I think it's human reaction that gets me because people are drawn into it like flies to a lamp, no only in negative ways but positive ways. I'm not christian or any other religion at all either.

Ok...if there are, everyone think for ONE MINUTE...the Bible is 100 % true. If you cant, you have no open mind or imagination, so go to another question.
What sins would you most need forgiveness of to get to heaven??

Bible belivers, Say for ONE MINUTE the Bible is totally false. If you cant, just move along. What do you do? Where do you turn? I would turn back to cocaine and pornography I guess.

I'm aware of the theology,so I won't need a lesson. Just consider that when he said everlasting life he most likely meant everlasting life.

All I hear from the christian community is how bad non-believers are and how bad certain other faiths are. ie; mormons, Jehova whitnesses, muslims. This is evil and that is evil and they're the devil and bla bla bla

It would be nice to hear from ones who aren't facists for a change. What is your attitude about people outside of your religion? Could you tell your intolerant brothers and sisters whats wrong with them?

It is my intention to make a study of it. I don't expect to become a practitioner but I wish to study it in a respectful manner so that I may understand what it is that Wiccans and Pagans practice and believe in. It's just ridiculous that people are immediately labeled as evil simply because they are not Christian. Evil is relative, much like one's own opinion.

It happens to me around the holidays when christmas music is playing in the mall. I recently decided to switch religions and now I can't get all this christmas music out of my mind. :) Its driving me crazy because the tunes are so catchy.

As i believe there is 2 types of Christians:

Group One: pepole who thought they believe in Christ and the bible, they may go to church, but u cant c christ through them, they r christian only by name

Group Two: people who decided to follow Jesus, day by day, u can tell they r christian from because u can c Christ through them.

Is there christians who cant show christ from their life?
Is christians who realy follow Jesus exist?
Have u ever meet a real christian that has effect on ur life???????

I don't read the bible. SO, this is my ignorant question for the week. Adam and Eve were white, (according to the illustrations I've seen). If that's the case, (or if you believe they were black, asian, hispanic, or another race) How did we evolve into other races?

That's like a white who hates Black people. Some are good and some are bad. Why does she lump all Christians together instead of judging them on the merits of their behavior?

If I said I believed in someone that no one else could see or detect, it would likely be called an hallucination or delusion. But when believing in the imperceptible in a religious context, it is seen as a good thing, a sign of strong faith. Why do the rules change? Isn't the point of logic to maintain a consistent method of thought across situations? Even with things like radio waves and electricity, which we can't see, we can measure and manipulate them, so they do exist, or else I couldn't run my computer. But god(s) and spirits cannot be percieved by the senses, measured or maniupulated, so why is belief in them so often seen as OK, even virtuous? I come from a religious family and have had many philosophical debates on this, and I still just don't get it.
