What must occur before humans will stop relying on a belief in deities, spirits, invisible powers, etc.? Or will that darkness of thought always be upon us?
It has long been obvious that most (all?) religious beliefs can be traced back to a gross lack of knowledge about the planet and the life forms on it, as well as the universe in general. As recently as the founding of the US in the late 1700s, it was not generally accepted that rocks could fall from the sky, but now we accept meteorites as a simple fact. Must a certain number of generations pass with a sufficiently-high level of knowledge before religion is scrapped? Or will science always take a back seat to closed minds of the type who claim that dinosaurs never existed and dinosaur bones were placed there by the devil to confuse us?
Will critical thought ever win out, or will we always be burdened by belief in the Bible, psychics, Feng Shui, horoscopes, and every other scrap of imaginative nonsense?
