CHRISTIAN= FOLLOWER OF CHRIST
No if you do not believe the Bible is the word of God you are not a Christian.
No matter you call your self that or not.
Many will say in that day, have we not called you LORD.
Jesus will answer depart from me ye workers of evil I never knew you.

So what you are saying is it possible to not believe in all the Tenets of the Bible? To not see the Bible as completely true? Or See some parts to be true and some other
parts not? Or to be totally and completely ignorant of the Bible?

If it is the last one I believe that is possible. Many of the writers of the new testament had bits of pieces of knowledge of the other writers. They also had knowledge of the old testament writers but that said they didn't have a printed book to reference. So many things were either letters or oral history that was later written down.

I believe the Bible is a great and Holy book but I also believe that salvation doesn't rest in its pages. Salvation rest within our souls and within God. The Bible cannot replace our savior. That said there are many things that Jesus said and did that would help along with the Old testament that tells many moral and ethical truths that would help someone become a Christian.

I think you could become a Christian without the holy word it would just take much more time and discipline and you would have a harder time interacting with others in your faith than if you possess knowledge of the Bible. I believe the Bible is God's tool here on earth. He has given it to his people so that they may use it as one might use a screwdriver or hammer to build something. In this case your faith.

If you are curious and want to know more I would encourage you to go to a bookstore (Preferably a Christian bookstore) and tell the clerk that you would like a easy to understand translation. New Living Translation (NLT ) is good and they will show you the different bibles and what they contain. And just make time a couple of nights a week to read a chapter. You will notice a lot of things that you don't understand and you can either email a local minister/pastor/priest or post them here.

The Bible brings together the beginning of time, the history of the Jewish people into the time of Christ then into the early Church. It is an Organic and living part of spiritual life
For millions of people across the globe that connects this wonderfully varied and colorful history together. I encourage even atheists to read it. Because not only is it a great piece of religious literature it is also a wonderful piece of the world's cultural heritage.

Peace.

I have always thought that Christian's believe in Jesus The Christ of the New Testament.

The Jewish people don't believe that Christ has come yet.

So many billions of people in the world and and all have some beliefs of there own.

I believe the Bible so long as it is translated correctly. King James called in 50 scholars ti write the Bible so it was easier. There could be many things that were lost through those 50 men.

I have faith that He exists.

I think it would be really hard to be a Christian, but not believe in the Bible. After all, Christianity is based upon the life of Christ, and the life of Christ is given to us in the Bible. All religions that are Christ-based get their Crist-related information from the Bible. I'm not sure why one would not want to believe in the Bible, except that perhaps they are unwilling to let God be their master and conform to His design. The Bible (I've heard it as Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) lays out the Lord's expectations for our behavior and beliefs. Without that, what is the point of being a Christian? Christians follow the teachings of Christ, right??

As has been said to be a Christian is to be a person who admits that you have fallen short of perfection and cannot redeem yourself. Through this admittance you ask and beg for God's forgiveness through the acknowledgement of Jesus Christ's sacrifce in death on the cross. It is only through Christ's death and resurrection that one can recieve God's grace and forevermore be re-united with God. Though the word Christian does mean Christ-like it is simply the human way of defining someone who follows these humble beliefs and desires to model their life after the commands of God the Father and the life of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit's guidance.

Thus to answer your specific question it is not possible to be a Christian and not believe in the sanctity and authority of the Bible. The Bible is the record of the very words and actions of the triune God. It is impossible to: believe in God, acknowledge one's weakness, and the redemption God offered all through Christ's death without trusting in the Bible.

Finally, to your last comment. Being a Christian is acknowleding that on this earth we will never be Christ like, it is not a destination but rather a journey with moments of clarity and perfection.

It depends on which form of Christianity you follow.

If you read the Bible carefully, especially the teaching of Paul you will see that he brings about a new form of Christianity, it isn't the actually teaching of Christ.

Christ never taught himself, he taught God -to believe in and to worship God.

It is my belief that if you follow the true teachings of Christ then you are a Christian.

Also people put a lot of weight on the Bible when it isn't the book that should recieve all the merit yet instead how we apply the teaching to our lives. The Bible teaches you morals it uses stories and characters, laws and practices; it is intended for you to learn from it, just like any other book you "decide" to pick up and read. Do you wheather on every other book in your life?

Live right according to what you believe.

Also, what a lot of people don't know that the Bible was comprised by a group of elected officials. They decided which books they wanted to put in the Bible, therefore there are lost books to the Bible. You can find many contradictions in the Bible, but they can also be explained away by many die hard believers. Don't take one book and base your entire life around it. Jesus didn't tell only one story, he told many; perhaps they had the same messages but he used different avenues to appeal to the people. Do your research, know what you are getting into before you committ your life to it.

I am pretty sure that God would appreciate it a lot more if you knew why you obeyed, loved, and worshiped Him, rather than just doing it because someone said it was right.

Everyone has their own personal relationship with God, establish yours.

It's possible to believe in the Bible (a term I find humorous, since the Bible obviously exists, even if you don't believe what it says), but not believe in God or Jesus.

However, if you believe everything the Bible says, you have to accept that believing in God or Jesus is part of the deal. If you believe when the Bible says that God spoke from the Heavens that Jesus Christ was his only son, in whom He is well pleased, you have to believe that God is God and Jesus is his Son.

Yes, I think you are right. I believe in the Bible and I know a lot of Christians who, if they didn't keep telling you that they were Christians, could pass for non-believers. The Bible was written by humans, rewritten by other humans, and translated by still other humans. Then it is preached at you by still other humans who are trying to raise money by threatening you with Hell if you don't pay.
Being a Christian is an attitude and a behavior based on being kind to other people no matter how big a jerk they act like.

A Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Christ and/or believes that Jesus is the son of God. I was raised Catholic and considered myself a Christian even though I certainly never believed the Bible literally.

Edit: PS. Weeping You can't logically say the Bible is correct and then quote your source to prove it as "The Bible"

To be a Christian, you must believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Do as Christ teaches, don't try and be Jesus. Follow the 10 Commandments and observe the golden rule and you'll be a better Christian than most.
