I know that Brits are more descent, more civillized, and even more understanding with minorities...but what about other factors of discipline like:

Is Britain a safer place to live than America? That is: with less crime rate? Is driving a car in Britain much safer than in USA?
Are women in Britain more serious in their marriages than American women?

Since I started noticing this - it has completely intrigued me. When couples go out for a meal they sit opposite each, its nice and intimate and it means you are making eye contact when you are talking. But when couples go to the pub for a drink why do they sit next to each other!!! Its like an unwritten rule in the UK. I think its bizare, you walk into a pub and its full of couples around the edge of the room just sat staring forwards like there should be a TV in front of them! My hubby and I always sit opposite in a pub so I don't end up spending the evening staring at strangers. Why do people sit side by side, we have experimented sitting like this but I find it makes conversation really hard.

I am a mum and no matter how hard it gets, i dont believe that it gets hard enough for a mother to murder a child..The mother in London who has just killed her 10yr, 3yr olds...What possesses people to be so cruel...No child ever asks for that kind of treatment...Why not just hand them to someone for a while or seak help,,,Bless those two children......May they rest in peace...

Racism seems to still be prodominant in rural areas of Britain in comparison to inner cities or large towns?
Ethnic minorities are still bound to cities and towns, why?
With city people moving to the country wouldn't it follow that ethnic minorities also follow?

No racist comments please. thanks.x

why does it seem like when you treat some people nicely they treat you like crap. but if you treat them meanly they act nice. (of coarse this is not true for everyone, but for some people it is)

It appears that many people on here have a difficulty in actually posing the questions.
I reckon a lot of them think a sort of question and expect me to know what they are asking.
Examples:- in culture, "when did 1471 start", "where can I find" and not include what.
Also many people seem so lazy they want others to look things up on the web for them.

My boyfriend started smoking at the age of 30 (1 1/2 years ago). He was always sitting on break with the smokers so he decided to pick up the habit. He usually smokes a pack a day. But once when we were playing cards, he smoked a pack and a half in less than 10 hours!

So, it got me curious :

How old were you when you started smoking?
What brand do you smoke? Are you a pack a day? How much do you spend on a pack or carton? Would anything or someone make you consider kicking the habit? And finally, I can understand your need to smoke one, but why another, then another, etc. I find it more of a social thing. I mean, when he's hanging out he smokes more than when he's at home (unless he's on the computer, then he smokes one right after the other).
