The Statue of Lierty stands in New York Harbourt and the American institution values freedom above all. Yet liberals are vilified and liberal is a dirty word.
This seems a schizophrenic attititude. (Apologies to schizphrenics).
Are Americans schizophrenic or just plain stupid?

Everybody, I believe, has a point where they say, "this just isn't worth it anymore" and finally give up. What does it take for you to reach that point?

just got off the phone with the principal of the school I work at. (I'm a history teacher). One of my best and brightest students has suffered a terrible tragedy. Just before school started in August this girl lost her father. He was a firefighter and was killed in the line of duty. Yesterday she and her mom were in a bad car crash. Her mom was killed instantly (car was apparently t-boned on the driver's side) and the girl was trapped in the car for twenty minutes before they were able to get her free. She was relatively uninjured. (Sprained wrist and bruised ribs and collar bone from the seatbelt plus some cuts). So basically this girl lost her father and has now watched her mom die. What can I say to her? She'll be living with her grandmother and they intend to keep her at her school to maintain what continuity they can. What words can I offer her in this really tough time. She's 13 and the guidance that is offered her can make or break her handling this. Any advice?

People from the northern states think we are all rednecks down here in the south (pretty much anywhere below Richmond, VA).

If everyone from the south is a redneck ... then I'm proud to be a redneck! What about you?

My teacher put "super, baby" with a star on a homework assignment that i didnt even finish. She just scribbled over the "baby" with the same pen so i could still c it. And she has a comma before baby so i think she deffinetely meant to put something after super. Is this saying something because how often does a teacher say baby toa student. And yea this is her first year of teaching and she is young and im in highschool. . .

It seems that every day, every week, every month is the same. Wake up at 7, drive to work, come home at 6, eat dinner, do some work at home, watch a little tv at night, go to sleep. Then on the weekends, wake up, do the chores, do all the kid activities (drive them around, watch their games), pay the bills, go to a dinner or lunch party with friends, etc.

It seems that it is always like this. Are we supposed to do this until we die? I just feel like I'm missing something, like there's a meaning that i just can't find. What am i supposed to do?
