Howdy Carolina Girl......nice name ;-)
I don't consider myself to be a "redneck" per se......I am however quite "Southern" and proud to be that....I like my grits...love driving my truck.......like to sit in the deer stand with my hubby.....like being able to walk down my small town streets and not worry what might be lurking around the corner.......and don't mind letting others know i'm from the "Bible belt" and wouldn't live anywhere else!
So God Bless ya sister!

I was born in NC and I am proud to be a redneck. the problem is that some northern people thinks that means we are stupid. However we are not We will smile at you and nicely get you back for your snide remarks. Every girl has been taught that in the south. Most of us are more educated than some of the northern people. I moved to the north and I found out that they have want to be redneck people. I have 3 PhD 2MB As and the only way I have been treated up here in NJ is like I am hard of hearing or slow. The truth is I found that I had to slow down my pace to work with in their pace. I also found out that they are about 15 years behind in the dental and medical fields.( can you believe that) that are an in your face kind of people ( by that I mean most of them are straight up and blunt) in the south we are a little more subtle about things and when we get mad we get even and then some. The other difference I have found is in the south we jump in to conversations and here they do not. I have also found out here in the north they are more prejudiced than we are in the south ( can you believe that)
Can I have a hell yea for rednecks. I will tell you this they stand with you right wrong or otherwise. Not like here where they say one thing and do another.

Um no I'm not a redneck nor would I be proud to be one. I'm a transplant to the south anyway. I've met lots of rednecks and I don't have a problem with most of them but it's just not who I am. If someone considers all southerns to be rednecks then they are pretty dim witted when it comes to people in the south.

I'm proud to be a "Treehugger" as we're called down my way (a greenie or left wing voter).
I don't know about a redneck, but do you know where the term comes from? It's not very nice, as it refers to the idea that a person is "lower class" since they have to work the fields all day - hence the back of their neck gets red from the sun. But it has connotations of "stupid, thick, slow, right-wing, ignorant, bigoted, gun-toting, backwards, etc). I don't think these terms have much to do with being a farmer, do you?
So many leftovers from the past still haunt our language, some of them not so pleasant.

once you place it that way, then, specific, i'm ashamed of all those destructive comments. yet, while human beings talk those style of issues here in Germany, I consistently point out that the prevalent public of those offenders have little or no formal education. and that i recommend that, if absolutely everyone desires to assist "destructive Africa", then the suitable is to circulate there hand help in guy or woman, and not with money supplies you. each foreigner that could instruct skills, from examining and writing to mechanical skills in repairing the tractor to plough the fields, can help. while the prevalent public can study and write, then they don't could place self assurance in be conscious-of-mouth remedies from Dr Beetroot etc. i'm proud to be a South african and could consistently attempt to place the image into the suitable suited physique while Germans inquire from me questions approximately matters that carry shame to SA. I accept as true with Heavy D that there are good and undesirable issues, however the coolest might desire to outweigh the undesirable.

considering the commonly excepted definition of a redneck. I am glad I'm not one
I am southern born, James Island South Carolina, like both of my parents and their parents, so I think I qualify as a southerner but Redneck? not a chance.

I wouldn't call myself a redneck. But I'm very proud of the ones that are down here with me. Northern people are ignorant. Our culture is way better than theirs. (in my opinion.)

I consider myself to be Southern, but not redneck. Except when I lived in Europe (my dad and I were in the export business and my mom is German), I've only lived in Southern states and Florida is not one of them. I talk very fast, I prefer rock music over country and I can't stand racism. I was born in NC, grew up in Texas and now live in Tennessee - have also lived in Virginia.
