Because things are so easily handed to us that, most people take advantage of the "free country" thing. Then the mindless losers think that they can, in fact, do "anything", which results in rape, murder, domestic violence, robbery, and all the other stupid crimes cluttering up the news.

You think America is free?

Where have you been these past 30 years?

I tried to take my kid to my old swimming hole, we had to climb two barbed wire fences, and passed by 6 "No Trespassing" signs to get there, and then a forest ranger kicked us out. This is NOT private property! It's "public" domain.

Try driving without insurance.

Try buying a car from a seller overseas that doesn't have special bumpers, lights, bells, whistles and gizmos galore that make it "DOT approved".

Try buying morphine or even codeine.

Try buying hydrochloric acid.

Try buying dynamite.

Try walking in to a gun store and explaining that you have a 2nd Amendment right to buy a gun without filling out government paperwork. When I was a kid guns were bought from catalogs by anybody with the money. I could have bought a fully automatic Thompson submachine gun at 8 years old! That's freedom!

Better yet, try claiming your "Constitutional rights" in court, or to a police officer.

Perhaps you've been in suspended animation your whole life, but Abraham Lincoln dissolved the Constitutional Republic by issuing the first Presidential Executive Order, thus bypassing congressional review.

We live in a totalitarian dictatorship friend, it just pretends to be a "democracy" by letting us play with chads and ballots from time to time.

We lost our bid for freedom when the south lost the war.

The problem isn't the government, though. Only a moral people can have liberty. Once we lost our moral compass, the need for a zillion laws became necessary.

It's our fault, but freedom we do not have.

You know people like that? Well I suppose that most people take freedom into their own hands. They're rude to other nations. They spout nonsense that the United States is the best nation in the world. They're rude to their own neighbors. They want to think that they're individualistic and should be treated as special.

It's not all about hedonism and debauchery, either. Plenty of those people can be thrown into the mix. But let us not forget the other side--the fundamentalist conservatives who wouldn't stoop to hedonism but have other ways of making this nation one big mess. And let us not forget everyone in between who are delusional and easily influenced by the norm. And all the other people who live here that make your question one worth asking. I don't have time to list them all. All I know is, there are more of those who take their freedom for granted than ones who are genuinely grateful for what they have.

I don't know. I guess it's because society is falling apart. No one has respect for anyone or anything anymore. The things that are free, the most important things are disregarded, laughed at, made fun of or just swept away. Like love, peace, harmony, respect, and sincereity from the highest form............GOD'S gifts to us all especially life............

News flash: Being free _means_ being able to do what you want, both individually and collectively.

We are a selfish, greedy lot, with a penchant for hedonism and debauchery. Sue us.

You CAN do anything you want, as long as it's not illegal or victimizes another person.
