This might be a bit confusing but here it goes.....
When a person speaks english, most of the time we can tell where they from....(like if they're australian, south african, american, french etc)
So when an english person speaks a second language, eg german or spanish, can the people that speak german or spanish as a first language pick up where the person is from (as in what country you're from, not that your first language is english). The same question goes with- what if a french person speaks german, can the german pick up that the person is french?
Hope that made sense......
Thanks :-)

i'm trying to improve my chinese (mandarin) speaking and writing skills. i'm probably at level 2 or 3 following a 4 level chinese proficiency bar.

i can't read the chinese dailies yet, news on tv is a challenge.

i want to find software, online reading materials, as well as any practices you might want to share.

i don't have the time nor the resources to find and watch chinese programs. but if you insist, please do suggest particular shows. i'll try and find them over my vacations.

Apart from school. I know we have mother tongue and everything. (Thank goodness I'm over that.)

Is there some kind of a language center that teaches Japanese or French?

Any recommendations? Preferable locations would be around the central area (Novena, Newton, Orchard, Scotts, etc.) Or does home tuition work?
