Try a language learning software on your computer, I like Rosetta. That way you can get better in the comfort of your own home, until you build up your proficiency and confidence.

Noone can be perfect, no matter how hard he/she tryes. You can act being perfect or just get a lucky stroke in few tryes, but to keep being perfect in continual, that isnt possible, not by physics, not by metaphysics.

The important thing is to try, becuse true arstists dont measure a man by his skills, but by the energy he puts into it. Keep practising, becuse a king isnt born, he is made.

Shyness is a flaw if you take it as one. Take for an example a man who talks too much. Do you want your friend to be all yada yada yada yada all the time? That way you wont give others a chance to speak and you may lose some friends or even worse, lose a girlfriend becuse she will be battling for words of her own.

A few hints might refresh your thoughts about yourself:

- Have belief in yourself and dont care if someone passes something to you even if it is verbal abuse or a swear. You are who you are, and you should be proud of what you are, and noone can tell you that you are bad in english, they can only advice

- Dont be afraid, that is the first step to leave the shy sub person you find in yourself

- Gather all your mental forces in once place and start to act brave, if you find yourself lost and with a lack of hope of what he/she might think of me, just say to yourself that you are what you are and if they dont accept you, there are other people on this world that will accept you

Fortune follows the bold :)

Kate, Stop worrying. You do not need a recovery. Recovery is for someone who has lost the track of it. Start reading, listening to lots of english, what ever be. It could be a simple brochure or a leaflet. Learn and use new words that you have learned. Importantly start speaking english when with friends and family. You will definitely find it difficult initially, but will work out over a period of time. I practised the same techniques.

From which country are you from? Czech?
See, English is a foreign language for you and it is quite normal that you will make mistake at the beginning. But think that you can however speak and read English which many others cannot. So its the advantage you are having. So never shy and speak English, it will be better and better in future.

Try practicing it by writing it, you don't have to be shy to yourself right? The easiest way to start is to learn the types of words like nouns, verbs and adjectives. Then start with making proper sentences. Of course, it's best if there's someone who would help you because it will be a ot easier for him/her to check your english that for you to check it yourself.

What have you lost, that you are trying to recover? Just endeavour to know what you are good in, and be lost in it. There are a million better things than just trying to speak English!

keep trying. you can observe others. it's one of the fastest ways to learn. you should try speaking to them also, but you yourself should not care about your bad english... just try to speak as gramatically correct as possible. for me, i like speaking to foreigners who are struggling with their english because a) they're damn polite b) they have an accent which adds "flavor" to their words... well, it's just enjoyable to talk to them.
